SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- The NC Dinos signed American pitcher Drew VerHagen as a short-term injury replacement for starter Riley Thompson on Saturday.
The Dinos said VerHagen agreed to a six-week deal worth US$70,000 in guaranteed salary, with the pitcher able to earn another $30,000 in incentives.
Since last year, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has been allowing clubs to sign temporary replacement players for incumbent imports who are ruled out for at least six weeks with injuries.

Thompson had been in line to start Saturday, the first day of the 2026 season, but then came down with an oblique injury Wednesday. The Dinos said at the time Thompson, who tied for the KBO lead with 17 wins and ranked third with 216 strikeouts last year, would be sidelined for at least six weeks.
VerHagen, 35,
initially signed
a full, one-year contract at $900,000 with another KBO club, SSG Landers, in December last year, but the Landers
terminated that contract in January
after VerHagen failed his physical.
A fourth-round selection by the Detroit Tigers at the 2012 major league draft, VerHagen has also pitched in Japan for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
In 206 career big league games, including eight starts, VerHagen has an 18-12 record with a 4.98 ERA, plus 234 strikeouts and 115 walks in 281 2/3 innings.
He had a much different role in Triple-A, with 56 of his 76 outings there coming as a starter. He had a 20-20 record with a 3.98 ERA, along with 258 strikeouts and 103 walks in 323 1/3 innings in Triple-A.
In four Japanese seasons across two stints, VerHagen went 18-19 with a 3.68 ERA, 278 strikeouts and 78 walks in 283 1/3 frames.
The Dinos said VerHagen will join the team Sunday.
