SEOUL, March 11 (Yonhap) -- InterBattery 2026, South Korea's largest battery industry trade exhibition, opened for a three-day run Wednesday, bringing together major Korean players and foreign companies to showcase cutting-edge battery technologies.
Nearly 670 firms from 14 countries, including the United States, Australia, Germany, China and Japan, will operate more than 2,300 booths at this year's event held at the Coex Convention Center in Seoul, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources.
The ministry, host of InterBattery 2026, said the event will open a venue for participants to discuss the expansion of renewable energy and energy storage systems (ESS) to respond to the chasm of the global battery industry, as well as the application of battery technologies in emerging industries, such as defense, robotics and urban air mobility.
The event will also foster discussions on the battery industry's response to trade policies of major economies affecting the sector, including the U.S. tariff scheme and the European Union's battery regulations, the ministry added.
"The Korean battery industry is currently facing challenges from a chasm in the electric vehicle (EV) market and global trade uncertainties, as well as opportunities from the growth of new demand and restructuring of supply chains," Vice Industry Minister Moon Shin-hak said during the opening ceremony, adding that the government will provide active support to domestic firms in their overseas expansions.
